WASHINGTON – United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) today received his appointments to the following Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittees: State Department and USAID Management, International Operation, and Bilateral International Development (Ranking Member); East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy; Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism; and Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues
“Having served as the former U.S. Ambassador to Japan, I feel well-prepared to assume the ranking membership of the subcommittee that oversees the management of the State Department and USAID, and to ensure our diplomacy efforts always advance U.S. national security interests and values,” Senator Hagerty said. “My other subcommittee assignments will also help ensure that I am on the front lines of taking on Communist China and their predatory actions, holding the Biden Administration accountable for any radical departures in Middle East policy that might jeopardize our safety or that of our allies, and making sure that our country is secure from transnational threats within the Western Hemisphere.”

- The State Department and USAID Management, International Operations, and Bilateral International Development Subcommittee, which Hagerty will serve as the ranking member, has jurisdiction over all matters involving State Department, USAID, Millennium Challenge Corporation, and Peace Corps management and international operations, among others.
- The East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity Policy Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all matters concerning U.S. relations with the countries of East Asia and the Pacific as well as the Association of South East Asian Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum. This subcommittee also has global responsibility for international cybersecurity and space policy.
- The Near East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism Subcommittee has jurisdiction over all matters concerning U.S. relations with the countries of the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, and Central Asia, as well as regional intergovernmental organizations. This subcommittee also has global responsibility for counterterrorism matters.
- The Western Hemisphere, Transnational Crime, Civilian Security, Democracy, Human Rights, and Global Women’s Issues Subcommittees has jurisdiction over all matters concerning U.S. relations with the countries of the Western Hemisphere. This subcommittee also has global responsibility for transnational crime, trafficking in persons, global narcotics flows, and civilian security among others.
