NASHVILLE, TN—United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) today released the following statement on the announcement from Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer that he will retire at the end of the Court’s current term:
“Justice Breyer has served on the Nation’s high court for nearly three decades, and I wish him well in retirement. In the coming months, the Senate will serve its critical advice-and-consent role with respect to whoever President Biden nominates, and I hope the President chooses a nominee with a record of and commitment to upholding the rule of law, applying our Constitution and laws as written, and respecting the special role of a judge in our critical system of checks and balances to interpret and apply the law impartially.”
