Hagerty to Continue Annual Economic Development Tour of Tennessee Next Week

August 18, 2023

Will spend more time on the road visiting with business owners, manufacturers, farmers, and local leaders to discuss the state of the economy and the harmful impacts of current policies coming from Washington

NASHVILLE, TN—United States Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN), a member of the Senate Appropriations and Banking Committees and former Tennessee Commissioner of Economic and Community Development, will next week begin the second segment of his third-annual Economic Development tour across Tennessee.

The second leg of the tour will take Hagerty to counties and cities across east and middle Tennessee, providing additional opportunities to meet with businesses—large and small—manufacturers, farmers, and local leaders about the economy, job creation, and the barriers that Tennessee entrepreneurs are encountering due to the harmful big government, tax-and-spend policies coming from Washington.

“As I witnessed on my first segment of the tour in June, Tennessee is experiencing more economic growth and success than most states across the nation and is consistently attracting new investment as companies continue to move their headquarters and manufacturing plants to our state,” said Senator Hagerty. “However, our communities and workforce are still feeling the pain from reckless spending and anti-business policies coming out of Washington. From prices of everyday goods at the grocery store and the gas pump to shortages in the supply chain and increased input and wage costs, hardworking business owners that risk their capital every day are struggling to increase investment and grow their companies. As a lifelong businessman and Tennessee’s former Commissioner of Economic Development, I have a deep and ever-increasing appreciation for hardworking Tennesseans, and I have seen first-hand how they prosper under pro-business, pro-growth policies—and I understand the frustration and challenges posed by the harmful policies of the Biden Administration. I look forward to spending more time on the road listening to Tennessee workers’ and communities’ concerns and ideas that will help me best serve and represent them in Washington and will spur economic growth across the Volunteer State.”

Hagerty is a lifelong businessman who started his business career with the Boston Consulting Group. He later became a venture capital and private equity investor, where he invested in and served as an executive and board member of a wide range of companies, including those listed on the NYSE and NASDAQ. From 2011 to 2014, Hagerty served as a member of Governor Bill Haslam’s (R-TN) Cabinet and Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. During his tenure as commissioner, Hagerty reorganized the department, eliminating over 40 percent of the positions and saving millions of taxpayer dollars. At the same time, the new approach helped spur the strongest economic transformation seen—taking Tennessee from an unemployment rate higher than the national average when he arrived to become the number one state in the nation for jobs created through foreign investment and being named State of the Year for Economic Development an unprecedented two years in a row during his tenure.

Hagerty’s office will announce details of his public appearances ahead of time.
